Q • It has long been the assumption of historians that the Reformation is important for the development of modern ideas of individual and political freedom. Based on this week’s texts, do you think this is right? What does Luther mean by freedom? How is his concept of Christian freedom like and/or unlike modern conceptions of freedom?

Reformation was definitely important for the development of modern ideas and after going through this week’s readings and lectures I am very much in favour of this statement. Earlier people were engrossed in whatever Church said. If they said that God will forgive if they paid some tribute then people believed that this would be true. But it is really sad that everyone failed to understand that God does not require middlemen to reach to its own people. Here the major role was played by the fear and that was the fear of not achieving salvation.
